The stairwells to the tram platform at the Central Station of Utrecht will now be cleaned by a robot. Utrecht Station is the largest combined bus, tram and train station in the Netherlands More than 170,000 passengers travel to and from Utrecht every day. With robot technology, cleaning is safe and efficient without disturbing travellers.
Efficient and effective cleaning of a complex object
Stefan Spanjer, director of KITE Robotics, is happy with the results made in Utrecht. “We have adapted the robot to the client’s specific wishes and requirements and together we have achieved this wonderful result. We thank the Municipality of Utrecht and the Dutch Railways for their confidence in us. The municipality has already thought about the efficient and effective cleaning of a complex object at an early stage, making in an example for everyone. The robots clean buildings under safe conditions, improving living and working conditions for everyone and that costs are saved.”
Hospitable and safely accessible
The Central Station of Utrecht is the heart of public transport in the Netherlands and the gateway to the city. Travelers switch here from bus, bicycle, tram to train and vice versa. The municipality considers it important that Utrecht is accessible and safe to reach.
“The cleaning robot offers a solution in the complex environment of the station.”
Alexander Schütte of the municipality explains: “The traveller is central to our philosophy. Now, he is not affected by aerial work platforms and can travel comfortably from A to B. We have now not only realised a high-quality connection from the station hall to the tram platform, but it also remains clean. The cleaning robot offers a solution in the complex environment of the station. We are extremely pleased with the application.
