Marian Loth has a her propaedeutic degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering from TU Delft where she graduated with her Master’s degree with the design of a female urinal at the design department of Sphinx.
In 2009, she started her PhD project partly funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Duth Railways, aimed to improve the hygiene of train toilet facilities through ergonomic design research. In 2016, Dutch Railways implemented Marian’s new toilet design concept in the model of their intercity trains.
Marian’s work has led to many publications and interviews in newspapers, on radio and television and she has become known as the ‘Dutch toilet expert’. In 2020, under the impetus of Covid-19, she was appointed member of the core team of the WTO compendium for the global standardisation of (transportation) toilets.
